A new virtual reality experience will let users follow surfing legends Jordy Smith and Malia Manual as they drive their Jeep® models to find waves in Hawaii.
Titled Jeep® Sessions: A Surfing Journey in 360°, this VR experience was created through a partnership between Jeep®, the World Surf League, and Rapid VR.
“Our project goal was to push the boundaries of VR technology to show what a surf trip feels like from the first-person perspective,” said Taylor Steele, Rapid VR co-director. “I’m excited to share this.”
According to The News Wheel, the Jeep® virtual reality experience demonstrates the off-road capabilities of Jeep® models like the Renegade and Wrangler, including why these vehicles are great for surfers to use as they get to the coast to find waves. Many surfers like Smith and Manuel are forced to cross beaches, rocky terrain, and even dense forests before reaching their destinations, which is one reason why it’s a good idea to have a well-equipped Jeep® to haul your gear.
Jeep® Sessions: A Surfing Journey in 360° can be experienced through a 360-degree video and via an app format that incorporates advanced VR technology. The app also has a sort of “choose your ending” design, so you can make decisions to affect the outcome of the VR narrative as you use it.
You can download the Jeep® Sessions: A Surfing Journey in 360° app through iTunes, Google Play, Daydream, or Oculus Gear VR.
